Warning:  the vanilla 2.2.12 is seriously buggy.  You have to apply the 
2.2.13pre14 patch at least to avoid instability and network slowdowns.  
Apparently the 2.2.12-20 kernel used in RedHat 6.1 is OK; I recommend 
either getting one of the binary rpms or gettting the src rpm (not just 
kernel-source) and building it yourself.
