Bogomips are a calibration tool used by the kernel when needing to
excute active loops waiting for a device. They are NOT a speed test
and weren't meant to. By the way a Pentium calibrated at about half
the bogomips of an equal frequency 486 despite the Pentium being in
excess of 50% faster for non FP operations.
Another exwample is plain K6-300 (not K6-2) who bogomips at 600 while
the far more powerful PII-400 bogomips at 400.
Bogomips are significative only when comparing processors of the same
family (K6 with K6s, K6-2s with K6-2s): if you don't bogompis what you
should then it can mean something is wrong with the clock frequency of
the motrherboard.
