Huh? I don't follow the connection from the question to the response....
The original expression already had grep in it; and the only grep on 
my RH boxen at least is /bin/grep... so I don't see this as making any
sense.

This is actually one of the things I've been wondering about... I mean the
scripts sometimes jump through some extra hoops for no aparent reason. Or
am I missing some kind of distro-agnostic attempt at something?? -=Chris
