TEXAS BROWNIES

 

from the Hellmann Estate in Lewisville, TX

 

2 cups flour

2 cups granulated Sugar

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup strong brewed coffee

1/4 cup dark unsweetened cocoa

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 eggs

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon vanilla

Frosting:

1 stick butter

2 tablespoons dark cocoa

1/4 cup milk

3-1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

 

In a large mixing bowl combine flour and sugar. In heavy saucepan combine 
butter, shortening, coffee and cocoa then stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling

mixture over flour and sugar in the bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and 
vanilla then mix well using a wooden spoon then pour into well buttered

jelly roll pan and bake at 400 for 20 minutes. While brownies bake prepare the 
frosting. In a saucepan combine butter, cocoa and milk then heat to boiling

stirring constantly. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until frosting is smooth 
then pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of oven.

Cool and cut into bars.
