Hannah's Chrust/Faworki Recipe
"Chrust (pronounced 'hroost') also known as Faworki (pronounced
'favorki') is one of the most favorite and elegant pastries in
Poland.  Chrust (plural Chrusciki) is served according to its ancient
tradition at social and family gatherings, and various festive
occasions."
Ingredients:
  2 cups flour
  1 1/2 Tbls. butter
  2 Tbls. sour cream
  salt
  2 Tbls. rum (or brandy)
  5 egg yolks
  fat (oil for frying)
  powdered sugar (for sprinkling)
Procedure:
Combine the first six ingredients in a bowl.
Knead very well on a board, beating dough against the board until
bubbles appear on the surface of dough.
Place in waxed paper & refrigerate for 1/2 hour or longer.
Sparsely flour the board to prevent sticking of the dough, then...
Cut small amount of dough at a time & roll out on board to approx.
1/8" thickness.
Cut dough into strips 3 to 4 inches long and only 1 inch wide,
forming diagonal ends.
Cut slit (1/2") lengthwise in each strip & pull one end through
opening.
Repeat until all dough is used.
Fry strips in hot fat while dough is still moist, until light brown
on both sides.
Remove each piece and place on paper towel to drain.
When cool, place on a glass (crystal) plate, and begin forming a
pyramid of Chrusciki layers...
Sprinkle profusely with powdered sugar each layer of the strips.
Chef's Notes:
Use more sour cream if dough is too dry.
Temperature of fat must be high to prevent absorption by dough

Life is short,Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly: Laugh
uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile...
