Bryan - The information you provided is correct. The BYD HVL (all sizes) is the approved battery for the Sunny Boy Smart Energy 3.8-7.7 power classes (SMA did not have the 9.6/11.5 power classes when UL 9540 testing was done with the HVL line)
SMA Backup Home (external accessory like the Automatic Backup Unit with Sunny Boy Storage) will launch along with the new SMA Home Storage battery (this was the unit on display at RE+). The Home Storage battery will be a monolithic unit with 19.4 kWh usable capacity. Backup Home will allow the full power of the inverter to be accessible in backup mode (unlike Backup Secure and Backup Select). Previously it was going to be self consumption only but when it does come to market it will be a whole home battery.
