You can definitely talk to EG4 directly. I have. But I will say that Signature solar has good tech support for the simple stuff, they are quick to answer the phone. They do have the retail and commercial sections, and while I try and get through to the commercial sometimes I get the retail and its still be ok.
And yes like with any tech support I have gotten contradictory info that I was able to straighten out. My understanding is that EG4 and SS are both owned by the same group of people.
