I wanted to clarify a few things. To make it easy I received a message from Robin Gudgel to pass along to the group. Let me know or Robin know any questions or comments.

I was reading some excerpts from a recent wrenches post regarding our new AIO inverter. We spent years designing this inverter with the help of a great manufacturer in China. This is not just a rebranded inverter. The first thing we did was to visit 20 different inverter companies and settled on one that only does manufacturing for others. They are building to our design and are extremely quality conscious. Heck their final computerized burn in system costed $500,000. That is something we can relate to since we too do a computerized burn in. We probably spent $50K though. One of the owners of MidNite is a fellow I have been doing business with in China for 20 years. We buy hundreds of different custom plastic and metal parts from him. He (Michael) is heavily involved in this new project and is constantly at the factory working things out as required. So, not only is this our design, we are also onsite a lot of the time.

This inverter is largely our design. We want people to know this as it should build confidence in the product. Our batteries are the same. We designed these units to be plug and play. It really is that simple and goof proof. The reason we are not making them here is we just can’t come close to the price we are getting with our partners over there. Far as I know MidNite Solar is the last manufacturer still building this kind of product in the US. Our Rosie, Barcelona, Hawke’s Bay, Classic, Kid etc. are still 100% built here in the USA. Funny thing though, we do not think we qualify for Bidens IRA bill for made in America? It says we have to use all American parts. That is impossible for anyone. There is an exception that would allow us to farm out the circuit boards to a contract manufacturer. Then it doesn’t matter where the components come from! We build our own boards right there in Arlington WA due to cost. Sometimes you just can’t win, but we are doing fine without the governments help.

I would appreciate it if you could post this on the wrenches list. I am not allowed to. We want people to know that this new inverter is truly a MidNite design. It is better than Solark in so many ways. One thing we do know is inverter design. History pretty much proves that out.

Thank you,

Robin Gudgel

I think the best description would be assembled in the US with foreign and domestic parts. I don’t know the level of assembly in Washington vs what is assembled overseas.

MidNite vows to have been heavily involved in the design and production and they also committed to board level swaps available to repair the AIO and those will be stocked by vendors, like Current Connected.

So is the Midnite AIO made in USA? Or is it just USA branding / firmware / support on China made hardware?

Thanks

The AIO is subcontract manufactured similarly to  how the solark is made.
