Hi Howie, There are many options for this equipment now. If the well pump motor is already installed, it may limit your options. If it hasn't, then there are a lot of good solar pumps available. Grundfos SQ Flex is solid from our experience.
There are also drives that can take high voltage solar DC and drive a pump. These drives are kind of like an inverter and a high voltage MPPT device. They optimize the PV and try to drive the pump at the highest rate possible with the available wattage by varying the motor frequency (no battery necessary). Despite all of these features, they aren't very expensive. ABB makes them as do many others but you need to have someone solid helping you verify that the pump you want to drive is compatible and what you want to do makes sense. https://new.abb.com/drives/low-voltage-ac/machinery/ABB-solar-pump-drives I'd call ABB and try to get to a smart sperson to help with this if you go this route. These are more set up for 3 phase motors than single or split phase. However, its been a while since I went through the literature.
