I remember the first time I saw East-West racking on a roof from an airplane some years ago. I was initially confused as it was the North facing side of the roof and the south side was a typically jam-packed flush mount install. Quite quickly I smiled thinking that's one way to take advantage of limited roof space and substantially decreasing PV prices.
This method, the East West rack up on the North side, can be advantageous to trying to 'back rack' the North side of an array to face south again, especially in high wind areas with multiple rows where you have to leave a massive space for inter row shading, much less the inevitable aesthetic comments. ;-) Best of luck, the attached shows a photo of how E-West racking on the North roof can work.
