I don't think that would be appropriate.  That's why lead acid batteries are covered in their own section in 480. I'm not aware of any references in 480 to also adhere to 500.  Battery acid is corrosive, H2S can be poisonous, but its very rare to build up gases to a flammable concentration outside of the battery.

Anyone that is concerned should just use LFP chemistry batteries.

Perhaps we should be applying Article 500 to the installation of batteries as well.

Jay,

I suspect it is because FMC is not vapor tight and could be an unintentional path for hydrogen gas, or could allow acid vapors to condense on the enclosed wiring. LFMC (aka liquid tight) is allowed in battery rooms.

HI All,

348.12 says that FMC cannot be used in battery rooms.

Would anyone like to chime in as to why that would be?

And what is the definition of a battery room:
Is a battery in an enclosure ( box) a battery room, or is the room that the battery/box is in the battery room?

Thx
