Wrenches, A good friend and fellow Wrench here at the List turned me on to a exterior fire sprinkler system called W.E.E.D.S, or wind enabled ember dousing system. I’m totally on board was hoping someone with up to date IT/SCADA/M2M knowledge could advise me on how best to activate a solenoid valve to provide the water supply and provide a signal to start a generator which runs a submersible well pump. I’d like to be able to activate the system when I’m away from my ranch.
The solenoid valve will be located in the mechanical cubby of my home. We get almost no cell signal outside our home and use an exterior Yagi antenna, a signal booster/amplifier, and an indoor broadcasting antenna that sits in an alcove where our cell phones reside. The signal does not extend beyond the alcove, and I really like it like that. The cell phones are used as “hotspots” for internet. I ran conduits from the alcove to the mechanical cubby. The generator is located on the other side of the property and there is no chance of getting wires from the house to it. It’s sole purpose is to run my shops and submersible well we put in as a back up to our hydro supply. It’s location receives a weak cell signal.
