Much like the Onan/Cummins propane RV gensets, the diesel units draw cooling 
air from below, and the exhaust exits either below or to the bottom side.
I service a repeater site that utilizes the model you describe and it sits on 
pretty beefy stand. I’ve also seen many of the propane models that sit on a 
table or stand. My opinion is that they are great for coaches and RVs, but 
there are better choices out there for stationary gensets. We’ve had really 
good luck with the Aurora 9kws, having installed a couple dozen so far. The 
Dynagen controller is highly configurable and the I think the little Perkins is 
a sweet runner, even though I’m not a Perkins fan.
