Dear people: My installer (a master electrician) thinks these are the cat's meow, so I had him install one on my home/office; my place is a battery-based grid-tie with an early model Radian inverter. Once installed (we are music lovers here) we kept hearing blips and occasional shut-downs on our stereo set-up! It was intolerable. Once removed, it was smooth as usual.
Watch out for those magic boxes--they're really not so magical. I'm guessing from looking at the box that its just capacitors. If the caps are sized to the exact load they will increase PF, which probably reduces some harmonics. But what about our neighbors, and their loads which we'll see on our house side of the meter? But its the details. Loads from motors to LED's are all over the size and range of the caps needed so its impossible to build one for a "house" and have it work across all power/PF/load ranges. And lets go further, we don't pay for our electricity like that, so PF correction gets us no reduction in our electric bills. So the 3% is bogus. As to how it would help our GTI inverters, nope. The smart meters, don't use power line carrier but a wireless carrier, so hard to see how that would help with EMF. In the end snake oil. jay PS 20+ year ago at MREF, there were folks selling same thing. Reduce your bill etc. > On Mar 23, 2016, at 3:08 PM, Tom Lane <t...@ecs-solar.com> wrote: > > Question , The Power Perfect Box www.StaticUSA.com a line > conditioning , power quality , phase quality , UL listed is used by several solar and electrical contractors . MIT reports 99 % reduction in EMF and THD , also reducing electrical energy created as heat and improves DC -to - AC inverter conversion . It is installed at the breaker panel and also acts as a surge protector . Claims made to increase solar production by 2% to 3 % and 3% reduction in electrical cost and to make LEDS , CFLS, AND APPLIANCES LAST LONGER AND reduction of heat in computers , lap tops , etc . Also stops Smart Meters from data retrieved over hard wired electrical systems and reduces EMF from Smart meters . My commercial and residential electrician with 30 years of contracting hates Smart Meters and rages about the EMF Heath threats to pregnant women , children , and old coots like me . My accountant sez it can count for the IRS credit if installed with solar for Power Conditioning . Other solar g uys are selling it and it seems to have a high ROI at $395 to a dealer . If the group believes this is snake oil or suede shoe nonsense let me know . The claims for savings are reasonable .
