Drake:

I agree with Peter. The PV inverters are "behind" the battery inverters feeding local loads served via a protected loads panel, as well as maintaining the SOC on the battery bank. Yes, they feed the grid, but do so via the battery inverter.

The GTBB (grid-tie-battery-backup) is a PV system that provides local battery storage of excess solar production, and can export power to the grid if configured to do so.

Adding GTBB to an existing GT-only installation would be analogous to adding a local storage tank to a water pumping system.

Do it all the time, sell it as an entire system, which it is.

I talked to my tax accountant. She had never had come across anything that would indicate that it would be a problem. Has anyone had customers that did or didn't have issues?

Thanks,

Drake

Talk to your tax advisor (or have the customer talk to theirs).  Don’t ever give out tax advise (unless you’re licensed to) as it opens you to liability should you give them the wrong advise and they get audited by the IRS.

Hello Wrenches,

Is it permissible to take the the tax credit on the batteries and backup inverter of an AC coupled system when the system would be capable of feeding the grid without the backup inverter and the batteries?

Thank you,

Drake
