Seems like something wrong with the generator, if the Vac is going that low, or there's a loose connection eating voltage somewhere. The Outback might still try to charge, but not be able to actually produce any amps with that low an input voltage. Check the Vac at the genny when this is happening, and if its still good there, work towards the inverter looking for where those pesky missing volts are going. Might be the input plug right at the genny, those take a beating and quit making good contact. After a while they'll get so hot they melt.

Wrenches,

Responding to a neighbors call for help troubleshooting their off grid PV system with a ten year old OutBack 2024T inverter I came upon a problem that I don't recall seeing before. I may have seen it but my semi-retired brain cannot remember this particular problem. Issue is that the inverter will not synchronize and charge with a seemingly good Honda 7000i generator.
·Generator output as measured with Fluke 126Vac 59.99Hz 165Vac Peak
runs loads fine on its own
·Connected through to OB2024 the typical 30 second delay before
transferring and charging happens per usual (Red LED blinks a couple
of times then stays off and Amber charging light blinks for the delay
period).
·Upon transfer 300 Watts of AC loads on inverter seem to run OK on
generator BUT generator output falls to 95Vac and no charging is
initiated. Hz stays good and there is no audible change in the
generator performance that I can tell.
·_No_ Red LED error light on OutBack. Just Amber charging light is
on, but no charging happens (no rise in voltage and no positive amps
showing on a fully functional TirMetric meter).
·No Mate on this system and I did not have one in my truck.

Signed,
