Hi Dana,

The best illustration for low power consumption Horizontal Axis washers are what are referred to as "apartment sized" units in the American trade. These European machines are smaller (and accordingly use less power than the poorly executed (IMHO) jumbo North American clones. Both ASKO and Miele ( Swedish and German respectively) make low power and water consumption machines that spin the clothes at up to 2,000 rpm (last time I looked) to truly minimize drying. Unfortunately, ASKO has recently adopted the American marketing approach to re brand a Korean manufactured American style washer to serve the less well informed consumer and deteriorate their own brand name. To the best of my knowledge ASKO still manufacturers their own "apartment size" units. Look at the gasket that the door closes on in the European models and then the American version, then judge for yourself.

Caveat emptor,

Hey All Long time off list –

Does anyone have any decent recommendations on low wattage - horizontal axis washing machines?

I have (2) off-grid clients that are at the end of their Fisher Paykal machines life (140-160 watthours per load) & I did not know what to recommend as it has been a long time since I have been asked this question.

As always thanks in advance.
