Dan,

        I am with you on that one....standby power consumption makes me think 
of battery sulphation.  The 30 watts Ray mentioned for the Rennai would be a 
deal breaker for me. 

        Hopefully I'll hear from a few others regarding standby 
losses...doesn't seem very important what consumption may be during firing as 
it doesn't really represent very much actual time.

  You'll have to shop around; there are still some that use no power. As a 
hard-core off-gridder, I hate seeing standby power use, and even worse a freeze 
prevention heating element. A good old pilot light keeps them from freezing 
too! Geez.
