Hi gang, this is a very interesting discussion. I have been powering smaller
public events for a long time, and also helping out with larger events like the
Pignic that Brian was referring to.

Keep in mind that this is a demonstration of renewable energy. It is just as
important that people be exposed to it as workable project than it is to supply
PV-energy for every watt-hour consumed.

First, make sure the PV array is as visible to attendees as possible, and
secondarily the BOS equipment.

If possible, demonstrate a grid-tied system (even if guerilla'd just for the
day) because that is what most attendees will be interested in for themselves.

It sure is time to make concert promoters, sound folks, and stage lighting
folks aware of their energy impacts. Use this as an opportunity to push for
energy efficient sound equipment, LED stage lighting (yes, it is available),
and conservation.

If you educate the promoters, the promoters will demand energy efficiency and
it will happen. Concert promoters are aware of the environmental consequences
of energy consumption, and want to change. If they start using low-energy specs
when they hire lighting and sound services, those folks will respond to the
demand.

So, be sure to include education for both the public and the pros who work the
show.

Finally, one option is to provide local biodiesel for generators that are there
to meet any loads the PV cannot meet. That way all the energy came from
renewable sources.
