Nik, I haven't run into this myself, but...
I think what you have is not really split phase, but two phases, out of the three available, from the three phase system in the main building. If that is the case, those legs/phases are 120 electrical degrees apart, rather than the 180 degrees you would have in a split phase system, which is what the the slave inverter is likely looking for. You might want to check with the building superintendent to be sure of the service setup. Then contact the inverter manu. tech guys to see what they suggest. Can you connect the inverters in parallel for 120 Volts instead? Are you using a charge controller or grid tie inverter + battery inverter? Happy New Year to all as well!
