Hiya Jeff,
You are correct that the sunpower modules are positively grounded. You are
also correct that sunpower only deals with dedicated "dealers". That means
that if you are not one of their dealers you cannot get their panels. It is
my understanding that sunpower is always looking for new dealers, so you may
want to check in with them. As far as architectural review committees and
such, we have never had a problem using SPR modules in the areas where
review is an issue. The positive ground really does not affect aanything.
Instead of your negative wire being the grounded (white) conductor it is
your positive conductor that is grounded. This means you are switching the
negative instead of the positive in the DC disco. Sunpower sells packaged
systems, so they provide positive ground inverters from different
manufacturers.

Evergreen now has a black framed module, and I believe Sharp does too. I
hope this helps, any other questions feel free to contact me.

Sanyo HIT's have black frames... most manufacturers use anti-reflective
glass. Maybe a bifacial panel would be a good choice... (Sanyo HIT Double)
Seems like a black "background" or substrate is a counterproductive idea, as
that would increase cell temps and decrease efficiency... Sometimes
customers are not privy to how crystalline technology works and a discussion
of efficiency is necessary. A customer will get more "bang for their buck"
if they make efficiency their first priority.

Along this same thread, I have a large ground mounted residential system
proposal on hold because homeowner association has requested low reflective
glazing and all black frames on all modules. I have seen a few dark bronze
anodized aluminum frame modules over the years but would like to see a list
of which modules in the 175 to 200 watt range are available with optional
all black trim, frame, and background behind cells.

Thanks,

The HIT Dbls are a silver frame and funny enough the new hold down solution
from Unirac has them available only in black.

We have installed systems using many different module brands and sizes, but
so far we have not installed Sunpower modules.

When we checked their web site it appears they only deal with their own
"dealers". Since we buy hardware from many different national distributors,
are these available without being a "dealer"? It seems like everyone wants
you be be their "dealer" before they will provide any information on their
products.

I also thought their modules are "positive" ground to achieve a higher
efficency which can alter the grounding wiring design and type of inverter
selected. Is my memory failing or perhaps thinking of a different product.

For those that have used this module, what has been your experience. Where
are these manufactured?

The only reason I am considering thie module is one of our client's needs a
totally black module in the 200 watt range and none of our other suppliers
offer this at this time.

Thanks,

Jeff Yago
