We did a test installation in northern British Columbia with 28kW of
PV and GT5 inverters selling to a 90kW Genny system in a remote
off-grid community. So far we have just stuck to the normal 1741
islanding settings, and the system has been working smoothly. The PV
was basically sized so that it would not exceed the lowest mid-day
load on the small grid, and there was already an automatic dump load
in the system to ensure the diesels never became completely unloaded.
So far the system has been working very well, with good fuel saving
for the community. You can read more about it here.

Looks like a fun project. I like the separation of cricical,
commercial, and residential loads (especially the UK style pay-as-you-go
metering on the residences.) I know those air-cooled Deutzes are hard
to kill, but this looks like a perfect application for water-cooled
machines feeding a district heat loop.
