Sam Vanderhoof and Ron Kenedi owned Independent Power Company. In 1982, they operated out of Tyler Foote Road, Nevada City, CA. (still got their their old catalog). Allan's history recounting is just about perfect. The first gear I ever bought came from a California outfit called "Independent Power Company", starring Ron Kenedi and his partner whose name escapes me. IPC got bought by PhotoComm...which is how I became a PhotoComm dealer. PhotoComm was reselling Kyocera modules (along with Uni-Solar and some other brands including private label items) and this continued after PC was bought by some of the Coors family members. The Coors people changed the name to Golden Genesis, but IIRC there were few other changes...which seemed like a good thing. When British Petroleum came strong into the US market (in the late nineties) they started distributing "balance of systems" gear alongside their BP solar modules. It was about that time when Kyocera bought Golden Genesis and blended that into Kyocera Solar for one stop shopping. If Steve Bass happens to monitor the Wrench List, he would be eminently qualified to write the history, because he was there through several name changes.
