Mario, what you are looking in any gen set application is the fuel solenoid
valve.
On the KOHLER 8/12 RES units, if you are facing the open door/run/auto
switch, the right side of the enclosure is removed.END of the unit. Inside
this space top left corner is our propane inlet. you will see, depending on
your fuel Nat/Propane wires labeled "70A & 70B" plus " N4" These are 12 Volt
& this is where you piggy back your source for your GSM. If the unit fails
to start the controller in the gen set will disable the voltage to these
solenoids shutting the GSM & the gen set down. BE aware that some of the old
RES units we needed to install a receptacle for the 120/12 volt battery
charger. The new ones have the receptacle BUT it needs to be wired into the
output circuit of the generator. There is NOT a charging circuit on these
units, prolong operation w/o the aid of a battery charging source will cause
a shut down.

Tump, Dave,
This is very timely info for us. Could you pass the diagrams along?

Thanks,
Mario

DAVE did you get this information on Friday? let me know if you need
additional info, as I do have wire diagrams for Kohler gen sets. TUMP

Hi Dave,

Try the oil pressure wire, it probably is live when running but I have seen
some shut down systems that go to ground to stop, might not work there.

Don't give up on them yet, I expect that I know who that was at tech and he
still has some learning to do.
He once told me that he would not trust the voltage and amp readings off an
e meter / link 10 because he had never heard of it.

Tony is real good. Next time you get the other fellow ask for Tony or call
back.
There is a wide selection of different start systems out there and it can be
real hard to get the right plans. Sometimes I think they do in
intentionally.... (the set manufacturers)

Later,
Bob

Wrenchsters,

We have a new 3.4kW PV off grid installation that includes a Magnum ME-AGS
Auto Gen Start module, Magnum ME-RC50 Remote Control, MS4448AE inverter and
a Kohler 8.5 RES lp gas generator for automatic backup battery charging (16
L-16G's).

We have successfully used a Magnum AGS control Magnum with an older 3 wire
start Onan although it took some time in finding 12 volts that is only on
when the gen is running (typically the hour meter power).

With the Kohler 8.5 RES there is no hour meter or other obvious location in
the generator for 12v power that is only on when the gen is running. We
called Magnum from the site only to be told that all of the information we
needed was on line. The man was still un-helpful when we told him that we
were on a remote installation with no internet access. Now I'm back at the
shop and on the web. On the Magnum web site I see a hook-up diagram for
their AGS with a Kohler RMY series generator. Nothing for a RES series.

Next time we'll go back to OutBack.

Any help that the wrench community can lend on working this situation out
would be appreciated.
