The problem is not stranded, it is fine stranded, such as braid or welding
cable. The Navy banned the use of it ages ago for mainly that reason and
went to flexible grounding copper sheet straps, but of course corrosion is a
much bigger issue there.
Braid tends to "wick" water, and we have seen it corrode into a crumbly
green mass of copper oxide in a matter of 2-3 years in wet/damp locations.
Probably OK for indoor use, but we prefer to avoid it completely.

When you get into the larger sizes - such sd what ised for ground loops
around buildings the ground wire is stranded.
Braided wire is used for flexible connections such as expansion fittings.
Movement over time tends to break solid wire.
