When talking about entrerprise class distributions like RHEL (hence
also CentOS) you should take into account the package release number.
This is becasue they usually pick a base version and stick with it for
the whole supported lifetime, piling up patches to fix issues and add
features. Currently, the gcc package in CentOS/RHEL has 100+ patches.

I see.
For those not willing to rebuild gcc the news is that the issue was in
gcc-4.1.2-48 and it will be fixed in gcc-4.1.2-49
