FWIW, if the inner measurement demon fights epic battles with the minimalist aesthetic demon, you can always use Cyclemeter on your "smart" (gag, yurk, spew) phone. One very nice thing is that, while it does record your average and fastest speed, you can nonetheless tuck it away in your jersey pocket so that it does not continually mock you with your slowness as you ride.
