Most pics I see of Albas have the stem level with or (way) above the saddle height. I initially tried them like that, and was prepared to call the bars a failure, as I can't comfortably ride for more than half an hour so bolt upright.
I now position mine much further down, and have reached a happy compromise. When I'm riding strictly on the road, it's a bit more comfortable even lower still, but a little more precarious when dirt and trails are involved. With a slight angle to the bars, my grips are below the saddle nose, and the front of the bars are just a touch higher than the saddle. I also ride most of the time with my palms resting on the brake lever clamps, plus or minus. I only really grab a handful of grips when I'm giving my back a break, or in traffic and want to be seen. Even then, my back's still at probably 10 or 15 degrees. FWIW, I'm longish in the torso, and a staunch seated climber, so stretching out, getting low and grabbing the fronts of the bars is a key position when grinding up hills.
