Tony, The black ice sent me into my car today. Usually we get so little snow/ice and/or it doesn't stay long, that I have never seen the need for a dedicated winter tire bike. But it seems like this whole week will be lost to snow/ice, so I awoke with the same question as you. I have never ridden studded tires nor do I have any experience riding nobby off road tires in the snow/ice. For the black ice studded tires might be the only solution.
