Most things, I'd been already leaning towards or doing. But for a few, I just
needed a nudge. Probably albas, platform pedals, and big saddlebags are the
changes with the biggest payback for me.

But the main take-away, upon reflection (because you know, all this talk on
this and the i-bob list makes a guy think) is clothing/attitude. Those two are
connected for me. Biking clothes put me in mind to bike. "Regular" clothes put
me in a mind to explore, dilly dally, go out and meet people, and pursue all
kinds of good, clean, biking fun. I've gone over to 100% "regular" clothes for
biking and it has changed who I am with respect to cycling. I now cycle less
miles but get out on my bike much more frequently. I do many day trips/mini
adventures. I explore towns, stores, cafés, neighborhoods. I ride slower.
Further, through the exploration of how clothes have affected my cycling, I've
discovered that they also affect my mood/attitude. So I'm paying more attention
to wardrobe in general. And my new way of cycling has drastically altered my
attitude of place. Although I've rediscovered and love where I live, it's
unpleasant to dilly-dally or dawdle about outdoors in cold weather. So I've
come to hate that New England robs me of that mode for the better part of the
year--and yearn to actually do something about this sad fact.

Back to clothes to finish up: I no longer even wear what most here would
consider riv-approved clothing. I get most of my clothing at Saks and other
fancy outlet stores where for a little more than goodwill prices, I can find
pretty nice duds. I fill in the rest from REI sales and the usual outdoor
clothing suspects. I love the liberating experience of getting off my bike and
feeling perfectly comfortable entering some swanky shop or restaurant without
feeling like a freak or Tour de France wannabe. (Just my personal preference.
No judgement intended on others or their choices.)
