Saturday, November 9. I had one of those work days for half the day where I had to be in Claremont, CA. As I was preparing to leave, I realized that I could maybe take the weekend back in a big way. I figured I'd be most of the way to Redlands, so I sent David Estes a message to see if he could do a spur-of-the-moment late afternoon ride. He suspiciously said, "I think I can design us a good flat root."
So as I was getting out of the car near Augie's coffee in Redlands, the corner of my eye sees a familiar orange Quickbeam. David was eager to pedal. I only knew half the reason at that moment. So after checking out the local volunteer-operated bike shop (which is totally cool!) we set out pedaling our Quickbeams, mine green with Albatross and Alfine 11 and a gear-shifter, David's clean and sleek and looking great with drop bars in its beautiful orange. He took me on a route that included lots of flat dirt paths, and after about 20 minutes came the big reveal: Hangar 24 brewery! I felt like a kid whose parents surprise them with an unannounced trip to Six Flags or something. The place was full of happy, relaxing people. This quickly turned into the weekend I was hoping for, and all it took was a Saturday afternoon. Thanks David! I got the 8-beer taster tray. It's shown on the Flickr. We continued the ride. More nice easy touring through Redlands, some orange groves, some train tracks, some SART I think, just a really relaxing Saturday. We finished up at my favorite pizza place in Redlands. Photos show evidence of that happening too. We got a couple of bike shots, each of the Quickbeams taking its turn out front. As David says, if you like to ride, come to Redlands! Again, I want to thank him for leading the way on such a fun time. David knows how to facilitate some fun bicycle times!
