Hi Steve,

The Ram does have a low BB to begin with, so it's not a conversion to
consider lightly; if someone were only interested in running something in
the 35 or 38 width, then I wouldn't suggest it. Or, if someone had
really long crank-arms, too.

The Hetre, though, gets you back up really close to a 700x27 size. I
think that's a big part of why Toshi and I like it, is that specific tire
is large enough to not introduce issues w/ the BB height.

Part of the consideration that you need to factor in, is the crank: my
crank is a 170, and I'm not peddling through corners, so I've not had any
problems. Another factor is the rider weight, too (maybe not for Toshi, but
for me, at least): I'm not a little guy; so, when I was running
Ruffy-Tuffy's, I had to really pump them on up there. I liked the 32
Paselas better than the Ruffy Tuffy's, but they were too tight with
fenders. If I didn't want to run fenders, the 700c 32 Paselas would have
been fine to have stuck with.

Switching to a 'large' 650b tire allowed me, a big guy, to run a comfy tire
at lower pressures under fenders.

I don't want to make it sound like it was magically different or anything:
it's still a great bike, and it's a similar ride; it's just softer,
because of the lower pressure.

FWIW...
