I must've been drinking the same sort of Kool-Aid as Grant , before I even
discovered Rivendell. I discovered Rivendell oddly through a google search
of "bike camping"; then Riv'd out my tig'd steel steed which was stolen...
and eventually met Homer.

The biggest influence for me to start biking was uncle Larry who's most
certainly a retrogrouch, who until recently exclusively rode lugged steel.
Just a few months ago he cut the steer tube to size on a Look lugged carbon
bike that sat in his living room for a few years. Over the years he would
check out the readers, occassionally call up Rivendell for something. He's
not an owner, but I may invite him to join these discussions because he'd
definitely cause some arguments and stir things up a little..... Most of
us drink our own "Kool-Aid", and maybe associate with folks into a similar
poison... while there is a sort of 'Just Ride' philosophy underpinning our
group here, a lot of folks are just riding and not thinking twice about
what type of socks or pedals, etc (but maybe someone needs to tell them
about wool).
