That's how I have mine too.  I don't screw it on quite so tight so I adjust 
it as needed with my index finger as I need to.  And I want it to give if 
it's knocked so it won't break off.  I have bar end shifters so it's about 
in the same place.  Play with the tilt to get the view you want.  It's very 
adjustable.
