Thanks again to everyone who replied with tips on how to get a bike on a plane. To recap: I flew to and from Portland, OR, over the weekend to take part in the Seattle-to-Portland ride. I brought my folding Dahon, which fits into a case that looks like a very large suitcase--technically a few inches over if they measure it carefully, but less than 50 pounds.
Here's what happened: Sacramento to Portland, Friday morning: As suggested, I went to the baggage dropoff outside the terminal, where the handler took my bike and put it right on the conveyor. No questions at all about what was in that very large suitcase. Portland to Sacramento, Sunday evening: The skycap station outside was closed, so I took my bags inside to the ticket counter. The clerk put a luggage tag on the bag and put it on the conveyor. As we were finishing, he asked, "Bicycle?" and I replied, "Bike parts." He smiled and sent me on my way. So -- a successful trip. Finished the ride, *and* didn't have to pay to fly my bike. --Eric N www.CampyOnly.com CampyOnlyGuy.blogspot.com Twitter: @CampyOnlyGuy -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
