That is to say, I was on the Rivendell. That is to say, further, that the
nice people were those who saw me with the Rivendell.

Anyway. I often get compliments and questions and conversations as I wheel
one of my Rivs through the grocery store, filling the panniers or
Saddlesack. Today it was the Ram with Banjo Brothers and a tubby old guy
(he said he'd be 60 in a couple of months: gadzooks, he's old. I'm two
years younger -- what's with these oldsters?) who told me how he loved
riding his Cannondale mountain bike, with road wheels for road riding: he
did a 700 mile tour from ?NM to Tejas last year, all in a week. He didn't
look like the athletic type being, as I said above, ancient and tubby. But
I guess looks can be deceiving because he can undoubtedly whup my ass. He
is a volunteer bosque patroller for the nearby bucolic and generally
expensive Village of Corrales, which has closed off its section of the
bosque because of fire danger. Fortunately, adjacent Albuquerque has kept
its dirt and paved trails open, so far.

I segwayed to nearby High Desert Bicycles to pick up a couple spare 2 oz
bottles of Stan's -- the Stan's in the Parigi Roubaix has preventef flats
for ~150 miles now, compared to a flat a ride, or more, pre-Stan's.
Standing in line to pay I spoke with a young 40 something who had brought
his Cervelo in for a new saddle; parked near my Ram with almost 40 lb in
the Banjo Brothers panniers, it was a contrast in appearances, but we
conversed and parted with mutual esteem.
