I had installed at one time, a pair of 2.35s *with* fenders AND rode in 
mud. Actually worked too.... Clearances were tight, but it all worked with 
no rubbing.....just an occasional "bzzzz" when I was riding off road. The 
key was hugging the tire tight at the bottom of the fenders, with the gap 
getting wider towards the front. That way the mud didn't pack in.
