I have a bike (from rbw) who's fork crown's rear brake hole is different
than others I have seen.
The hole on the rear face of the crown is sort of like a standard one for
brakes with recessed allen nuts but the holes aren't the standard size. The
smaller hole (the one down in the recess) is the same size as the one on
the front of the crown (~1/4 in. or 6mm), and the dia. of the recess is
about the right size for the barrel of a recessed allen brake nut. The
flange of a recessed allen nut does not fit in the larger hole.
Is anyone here familiar with this sort of drilling on a fork crown?
I am curious why it would have been made this way. Perhaps so it could be
used as is with old style bolt on brakes (without an insert), or drilled
out and used with current style recessed allen bolts. Since my fork has
canti brakes, the crown holes are really just for mounting racks or lights
or cable stops or .... So compatibility with recessed allen bolts is not of
much consequence.
Anybody have any ideas?
