Hugh, The road from Shaver to Huntington has a lot more traffic. The best roads are up to Kaiser Pass and then to either Edison lake or Florence lake. Even though it's only ~27 miles one way to each, there is a lot of climbing and the downhills are slow due to the narrow winding roads. I don't know if the consensus is day rides from a base camp or an overnight to one of the lakes? A round-trip to one of the lakes would be like 50+ miles and 5000+' of climbing. Obviously the s24o would be 1/2 of that. There is a nice cafe and store at Edison near the campground and showers. There is also a day 3 option to go around Kaiser Peak and stay at a more primitive campsite off of Stump springs rd.
This is one of the rare places you can ride deep into the Sierras on your bike but you have to work for it. SLO would be a lot gentler riding and access by train. .... also that weekend works good for me. ~mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
