After having read way too many posts, on various forums, about Brooks 
saddle care, I think the consensus is this: Whether you use Proofide or 
Obenauf's or neutral Kiwi shoe polish or some other treatment, use it 
sparingly and not too frequently. How much is "sparingly"? I like Grant's 
suggestion that a thimbleful will treat a whole saddle, top and bottom. How 
often is "not too frequently"? I don't know, but I like Matt B's 
suggestion: When the leather appears dry, rub some Proofide into it. But 
again, just a bit. It appears to be far easier to ruin a Brooks with too 
much oiling than with too little.
