It looks like "QR" knob thingy works in conjunction with the reach adjustment screw. The farther in that screw is the more slack you get in the housing by turning the red knob. The knob is awkward to turn and I'd guess is probably more trouble than it's worth for such a small amount of travel. I might just dremel the dam thing off on my set.
