Well, it's my brain that fails, actually. I rigged up a great old Filson's
backpack that lost the shoulder straps into a solidly mounted, no sway
rando-ish bag, strapped to a mini front rack and the handlebars. Did a wee ride
with a bulky but light load of wools in it this morning (20˚F, so I needed
clothing for my time up at the falls). I made it half a mile. Somehow the front
load and my vertigo do not mix very well. Strapped it to the rear rack and
though my brain had some recovery to do I did "normal" on the bike again (the
bike usually helps my brain feel better, unless I'm really brain boggled). Upon
getting home, I tried it with less weight and had the same issue. Apparently
it's a x-small saddle bag as a handlebar bag for me, since I know that works.

So I've got my Sackville panniers on to carry the additional warm clothes, and
am eying a medium saddle sack to replace my small as it seems the right size
for all-round use, including bikepacking with the panniers.

I'm hopeful the better hand positions with my relocated shifters will help
shift enough weight forward for steep climbs when loaded (all weight on the
rear) and eliminate the jittery front wheel in such situations.

With abandon,
Patrick
