Thanks all for the kind words. I highly recommend a trip to eastern OR. 

We had frozen water bottles a couple mornings. The first couple days were 
cool but not bad when we got out of the wind. It warmed up as the week 
progressed. A couple afternoons were warm enough for shirt sleeves but long 
sleeves were the norm.  

Homer handles great w/ 4 panniers. I've read complaints that loaded Hilsens 
can be squirrely but that's not my experience. Perhaps the 2tt is teh 
difference. The lowriders are stable on the front, although in the snow 
they bottomed out a few times.

Regarding randonneuring... our whole route was barely over 500k. Hard to 
imagine riding it in a day-and-a-half. But that's more my mental block than 
anything else.
