I have a 56 Atlantis and a 58 Simple One. The Simple One is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden, but I would like to have a bike I can use for touring (and touring will likely mean carrying my things and 1/2 or more for my wife). Can anyone suggest what Rivendell with gears will come closest to the Simple One and permit me (160 lbs) to carry a good deal of weight on occasion)?
I have the Simple One set up with Dove bars and a 7 or 8 mm stem, large saddlesack in the rear and a Riv High-Rider front rack with a basket in front. I ride this most days on a 6-7 mile ride each way across San Francisco from the ocean to near downtown. I've tried the Atlantis with Noodles and a flat bar (Nitto Torsion); I haven't yet tried it with Albatross bars or a Bosco, but I do own one of each, and this will probably be my next experiment. I also have a Rohloff hub that I have considered putting on the Simple One, but I'm not sure of the carrying capacity of the Simple One, and "Simple 14" just doesn't sound the same. I have also ridden my wife's 52 Alba, Hillborne, and while it is too small, the ride is pretty comfortable. Will this be as easy as trying upright bars on the Atlantis?
