I do hate to be the wet blanket but in a city like here in NYC you can go on Craigslist and pick up any number of bikes for under 200 bucks that will get you around town safe and pretty comfortably. I don't know if I would call a total build out at around 2k affordable or "the future" of urban cycling except for people that are somewhat well off, who are already pretty well covered. And as for a Taiwan made bike, if it employs 20 people here and 10 over there I dont see that as "inferior" compared to some boutique shop that employs 5 people here in the states. When you are paying fair wages for overseas work and employing people domestically that is somewhat of a win-win. Everyone deserves a good living wage, I dont see why we should treat people that do the same quality work over in Taiwan as second class.
