I hadn't fully appreciated the headset-spacer variant of the hammerstrike bell until your message, Michael - so, last weekend I picked one up and now am happy to give a full report. I have a 1" threadless Legolas which has long-suffered with another's (failed) tapped-spacer-mount, which had promptly stripped out due to inadequate material...
This Crane headset-spacer version is a very nice, machined solid block that should give much better support over the miles. It is sized for 9/8", but comes with a nice, thick shim for 1" steerers - a good little widget in its own right to add to the tacklebox (I'm running a 1 1/8" Nitto lugged stem already on a good-n-tall spacer of it's own, so this was able to add onto the existing height). My only criticism is that could look a bit wonky when mixed into a stack of 1" and 9/8" bits (being "oversize"). This will not rotate when part of a tightened or compressed headset stack, under normal operating conditions. Just make sure your steerer is tall enough. I also have a headset-canti-brake-hanger-spacer in my setup, and this did not interfere with it (though the re-arrangement required an adjustment of overall brake cable length). The bell itself is well-made and effectively the same as the springy-dingy versions. RBW also offers a larger hammerstrike, but I haven't investigated if those are M5 mount (or not). http://tinyurl.com/co46hcs and http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/bellhed.htm =- Joe Bunik Walnut Creek, CA On 3/13/13, Michael <john11.2...@gmail.com> wrote: > Was thinking of getting this. > *http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/bellhed.htm*<http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/bellhed.htm> > > My only concern is I think it doesn't rotate around the steerer tube, so > one would have to know exactly where you want it facing before cranking > down on the headset locknut. > I can rehearse that with my regular bell before installing. > The price is very nice. > I have lotsa room for it on the sterrer tube/headset. > > Let me know if you have it and like it, and if anything to think twice > about before attempting installation. > > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "RBW Owners Bunch" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to rbw-owners-bunch+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > To post to this group, send email to rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com. > Visit this group at > http://groups.google.com/group/rbw-owners-bunch?hl=en-US. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/groups/opt_out. > > > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
