The hupes had a tendency to scratch the seat stays. If you want one I'd be willing to sell mine for cheap. It just hangs from my bike rack inside after I got some scratches on my then new Roadeo.
I think it would depend on how much weight on the fender but for light loads it shouldn't compress the fender too much...
