I've used Marathon Supremes for about 5 years now & never had anything like that. I beat them up on sharp rocks, gravel, etc., off road & kinda like being able to blast thru junk on road. I get around 1 flat per year (+/- 6,000 miles). Sounds like a defect to me, especially given the age of the tire.
