I prefer full-fingered gloves and like some good padding, but I don't like 
feeling like there is a diaper between my palm and the bar grip.

My favourite gloves so far have been Mechanix work gloves.  They have 
padding in the same areas as bike-specific gloves, but are much more 
durable and cost the same.  Mine are yellow, so help with signalling and 
lane changes.
