I was in San Francisco in the mid-90's when a friend suggested I pay a visit to Rivendell in Walnut Creek. A few calls later, I was in awe meeting Grant Peterson who had just started RBW and was doing business out of his garage. Fast forward a few months later, I received one of many packages from Rivendell. The first package was quite special, a Waterford built Rivendell Road. If you are reading this, you already know it's history, Reynolds 753 tubing, Richard Sachs inspired lugs, First Edition Head Badge. It saw very limited rides since I was racing back in the day but wanted a 'sports tourer' I can look forward to when I retired my USCF license. All in all, it probably logged less than 1000 miles, underwent several revisions (shimano/mavic components, triple/ double racing cranks, down tube/brifters) but it never really met its true calling.
In 2009, after years hanging on the hook, I finally took her apart for storage. This was not enough as I became obsessed with the 650B craze; I had already built two; a Seven Ti and a Trek 620 (check out my flicker sets). I collected special parts and decided to make the Riv an out-of-the ordinary build set; a blacked out component list! Thus began the search for blacked out components that would make this Riv unique. I collected/purchased mostly NOS parts --- phil wood hubset/bottom bracket and came across two very unique and rare components; a Sugino compact crankset with Black 50/34 ChainRings and a set of Synergy Black Rims (the rear is O/C) built by Riv's own, Rich Leznik. Check it out here http://www.flickr.com/photos/dedmaus/sets/72157632947325219/. Like all my bike projects, the process was quite fulfilling but as life has taken course, I am offering it to the group. It is a wonderful, comfortable ride -- well balanced and the Phil Wood hubset is flawless! The pictures say a thousand words and since it's restoration, it was ridden sparingly, approximately 150 miles. I hate to let her go but she deserves someone who can really appreciate her. Ask if you have any questions. I've invested well over $3400 and asking $2100. This will include insured UPS shipping, professionally packed to CONUS.
